~ Estate Planning ~
Wills and Trusts

An estate gift — which include naming Saint Mark’s as the beneficiary of a will, life insurance policy, living trust or retirement plan — is one of the easiest and most lasting acts of Christian stewardship.  Through an estate (or “planned”) gift, you can continue your legacy of stewardship well beyond your own lifetime.

In addition to the types of gifts mentioned above, there are many other options for planned giving such as tax-advantaged outright giving and charitable gifts that pay income to the donors for their lifetimes.  Because planned or estate gifts can be technical, and each individual’s circumstances are different, it is best to consult with your own financial advisor and legal counsel when planning such gifts

To help those who wish to help the Cathedral, Saint Mark’s works closely with the Diocese of Olympia to provide relevant, up-to-date information on the variety of giving instruments available.

At your request, a planned giving specialist will meet with you individually to discuss your personal circumstances and wishes, and recommend the types of gifts that may be best for you to consider.  Your attorney and other advisors can then help you establish the specific gift that is most appropriate for you.

The Saint Mark's Cathedral Legacy Society recognizes the commitment of individuals and families who remember Saint Mark’s in their estate plans. It is a membership group comprising all those who have named Saint Mark’s to receive a portion of their estates.  Membership is automatic when Saint Mark’s receives notice of the donor’s intentions, and remains in effect as long as the Cathedral remains in the estate plans.

Trust members are acknowledged for their generosity through inclusion in the Saint Mark’s Cathedral Legacy Society yearly publications and through special programs and opportunities offered at different times throughout the year.

Legacy Society members also automatically become members of the Bishop’s Society of the Diocese of Olympia, formed to honor all those parishioners in this diocese who include any Episcopal ministry in their estate plans.
