- A restricted gift is a donation intended
for use by a specific ministry or program, but for which no exclusive use is identified. For instance, a donation might be made to
the music program or to parish life, but the way the music program chooses to use the
funds is not specified by the donor. In these
cases, the restricted gift will be used to support planned projects or goals within the
current operating year. Restricted
gifts are gratefully accepted at any time.
- A special gift is a donation intended for
use by a specific ministry or program for a specified purpose. For instance, a donation might be made to the
music program for the purchase of new choir robes, or to parish life for the purchase of
study aids for a Bible study group.
Because special gifts may require additional administrative oversight or necessitate the
Cathedrals embarking on a new project that may be outside its identified priorities,
approval of special gifts is required by the Vestry before the donation can be accepted. Please contact the Stewardship and
Development Office at (206) 323-0300 ext. 214 for more information about special gifts.
- Discretionary
Funds. There are two discretionary
funds at the Cathedral, one for the Dean's use and one for the clergy (priests and
deacons) of the Cathedral. Because by
definition the use of these funds is at the discretion of the Dean or clergy, no donor
restrictions can be made to donations made to discretionary funds.
