Sunday School meets Sundays, mid-September through May, from 10:10 to 10:55 a.m. in the St. Nicholas Building. Children age 3 through fifth grade participate in Godly Play, a Montessori-based method of faith formation. A wide variety of activities is offered for Preschool through Senior High in Church School classes from 10:10 to 10:55 a.m. most Sunday mornings in the year. (Check Sundays and Beyond, our weekly newsletter, for the Sunday schedule for this week!)
Children’s Chapel. During 9 a.m. Sunday worship, children preschool age through second grade have the opportunity to participate in and enjoy Children’s Chapel in the beauty and reverence of Thomsen Chapel. This service mimics, in a child-friendly way, what is occurring in church and helps children be able to talk about such things as prayer, the Bible, and parts of the Cathedral like candles and the altar. Singing is a part, too and parents are always welcome.
Godly Play. Several of our children’s church school classes use Godly Play, a Montessori-based way of listening to God together with children. It has been developed by Episcopal priest and author Jerome Berryman, founder of The Center for the Theology of Childhood now located in San Gabriel, California, and has been used in various church denominations for over 30 years. Godly Play is used in all parts of the United States and Canada and many other countries around the world. Godly Play is offered to children from age 3 through fifth grade.
