Choral Evensong
Choral Evensong is a centuries old tradition dating to the time of the Protestant Reformation. A combination of the monastic offices of Vespers and Compline, Evensong is a public office; all the while retaining the great canticles and prayers from both services, as well as a rich and vibrant tradition of psalm singing. From the very first Book of Common Prayer in 1549, choral music has been an essential part of the Episcopal tradition. As the writers of that first Prayer Book instructed, “In Quires and Places where they sing, here followeth the Anthem.”

Choral Evensong is sung by four Saint Mark’s choirs, in rotation with guest parish choirs and Artists-in-Residence. These choirs include the Boys and Girls Choir, the Youth Ensemble, the Women’s Choir and the Gallery Choir.
Choral Evensong is sung on Sunday evenings at 5:30 p.m. from September through May in the Cathedral Nave. Click for an Evensong schedule.
