Giving to a Specific Ministry or Program

Saint Mark’s welcomes gifts intended for use by a specific Cathedral ministry or program. We offer the following information for your consideration as you plan such a gift.

  • A restricted gift is a donation intended for use by a specific ministry or program, but for which no exclusive use is identified. For instance, a donation might be made to the music program or to parish life, but the way the music program chooses to use the funds is not specified by the donor. In these cases, the restricted gift will be used to support planned projects or goals within the current operating year. Restricted gifts are gratefully accepted at any time.
  • A special gift is a donation intended for use by a specific ministry or program for a specified purpose. For instance, a donation might be made to the music program for the purchase of new choir robes, or to parish life for the purchase of study aids for a Bible study group. Because special gifts may require additional administrative oversight or necessitate the Cathedral’s embarking on a new project that may be outside its identified priorities, approval of special gifts is required by the Vestry before the donation can be accepted. For more information about special gifts, please contact the Stewardship Office at giving@saintmarks.org or (206) 323-0300 ext. 214.
  • Discretionary Funds: There are two discretionary funds at the Cathedral, one for the Dean's use and one for the clergy (priests and deacons) of the Cathedral. Because by definition the use of these funds is at the discretion of the Dean or clergy, no donor restrictions can be made to donations made to discretionary funds.
