Alleluia, Christ is Risen!
Our celebration of Easter continues for Fifty Days until the Sunday of Pentecost on June 12.
Our diocese, the Diocese of Olympia, has begun a campaign during the Fifty Days of Easter to Support Life at St. Vincent’s Center for Handicapped Children School and Medical Facility in Haiti. If you want to eradicate hunger to the most marginalized of our world, consider the Campaign to Support Life at St. Vincent's.
For a full schedule of Cathedral activities please see the online calendar.
The Day of Pentecost: The Fiftieth Day of Easter
Sunday, June 12
8 a.m. - Holy Eucharist with Renewal of Baptismal Vows - Thomsen Chapel
9 a.m. & 11 a.m. - Holy Eucharist with Baptisms - Cathedral Nave
12:30 pm - Community Picnic for Pentecost - Bloedel Hall
On Pentecost, our readings focus on Jesus’ promised gift of the Holy Spirit and the call to spread the Good News of the Risen Christ throughout the world. It is both an ending as we complete our Easter celebration of resurrection, and a beginning as we are sent forth to proclaim that good news to the world.
Pentecost is one of the four baptismal days appointed by the Book of Common Prayer. It is an appropriate day to baptize new members into the body of Christ, celebrating their own receiving of the Holy Spirit and new life in the risen Christ. We are anticipating baptizing 9 babies at the 9 and 11 am services.
This is also a Hunger Offering Sunday: we will celebrate with Bread for the World 2011 Offering of Letters. Please visit the Hunger Offering table and take part in the Bread for the World's 2011 Offering of Letters. You will have the opportunity to send a handwritten letter urging your representative or senator to stand firm against budgets cuts to programs for hungry and poor people. Showing our concern will send a powerful message to our state and country's political leaders. Please join us in this effort to help end hunger at home and abroad. Community Picnic Everyone is invited to join us in a celebration of the work of the past year with this annual community gathering. We’ll provide hamburgers, hotdogs, and veggie burgers and you bring a side or dessert to share! Food will be served in Bloedel, however, if the weather permits, you are welcome to take your food up to the lawn for a picnic.
