Nominations

The Nominating Committee, which is not a Vestry committee, is designated by the Cathedral's Constitution and Bylaws to present to the annual Parish meeting a list of nominees for Parish representatives and to the Diocesan Nominations Committee a list of nominees for Diocesan representatives. The committee is also charged with nominating a slate of delegates and alternates to represent the cathedral at Diocesan Convention for two years.

Vestry Member Nominations Process

Five members rotate off the Vestry each year. They are replaced by three representatives from Saint Mark's Parish, one representative from the Diocese of Olympia, and one representative of the Seattle community. All members serve for a three year term.

Candidates for the parish representatives are presented as a double slate--that is, six candidates stand for election for three positions at the Annual Meeting in February. In selecting names for consideration, the Nominating Committee uses the parish roster to identify potential candidates and also invites members to submit names for consideration via a box placed in the Nave in the fall.

The Diocesan representative is elected at the Diocesan Convention in the fall, with two candidates running for one position. Two members of the Nominating Committee are from the wider diocese. Their role is to help identify potential candidates for the Diocesan representative.

The Community representative is selected by the Dean, with the advice of the Nominating Committee, Vestry, and others. Two members of the Nominating Committee are from the community and their advice is sought in identifying potential candidates for community representative. These members are to be persons "of demonstrated qualities of dedicated commitment to a faith community, leadership and vision, and responsiveness to the needs, concerns, and hopes of the world."

Convention Delegates Nominations Process

The 99th Annual Diocesan Convention is scheduled for Friday through Saturday, October 16-17, 2009, at the Hilton Vancouver, Washington. The convention will convene at 8:30 AM on Friday, October 16, and conclude mid-afternoon on Saturday, October 16.

The 500-plus members of the convention from around the diocese will come together to conduct diocesan business (elections and resolutions), but more importantly, to share their faith journeys, to converse on topics of interest, and to hear stories from a diverse collection of speakers.

At the Annual Meeting, ten delegates are elected and join the twelve delegates from the previous year. In selecting names for consideration, the Nominating Committee uses the parish roster to identify potential candidates and also invites members to submit names for consideration via a box placed in the Nave in the fall.
