Meeting Report Sunday, February 12, 2012

On Sunday February 12, 2012 ,the Call Committee met at Leffler House from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. We finalized the questions to be used during the Skype conversations with the candidates and began our discussion of the candidates. Our list is down from 21 to 19 candidates becaues one candidate withdrew and another ultimately did not submit materials for our review. This next Sunday, we plan to finalize the list of candidates with whom we will be having Skype conversations. We hope to begin the conversations in the following two weeks (depending on candidate availability).

Committee email address

We now have an email address callcommitee@saintmarks.org where parish and community members can send questions. We will respond directly to the questioner. In addition, we will publish some of the questions and answers on the Call Committee page of the Saint Mark's website -- look for a Frequently Asked Questions ("FAQs") link -- and in a printed flyer. In addition, there will be a Call Committee member available under the Calling the New Cathedral Dean banner in the southeast corner of the nave after both the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Sunday services. A call committee member will be present after the 8:00 am and 7:00 pm Sunday services as well.

We are still on track to complete our conversations with the candidates by mid-April.

In Peace, Brian Sellers-Petersen, Carol Batchelder, Colleen Boyns, Danielle Richmond, Heidi Kim, Joe Roza, John Neitzel, Mark Eichinger-Wiese, Re Knack, Sallie Bodie, Sherry Steele, Steve Moen, and Susan Knirk

Announcement of Call Committee

Sunday, October 31, 2011

Over the last two months, the Profile Committee and your Vestry have completed two significant steps in calling our seventh Dean.

First, the Profile Committee has produced a vibrant and joyful document reflecting our complex and multi-faceted life together. To accomplish this in a dozen or so pages is certainly no easy task! Bishop Rickel and the Vestry applaud their efforts.

Second, your Vestry has worked collaboratively to appoint members to the Call Committee. This posed a particular challenge. Our community is abundantly blessed with talented, prayerful, and intelligent people. Over a four-week period, we collected nearly 60 nominations. Through a process of prayer, discernment, open debate we named the following: Carol Batchelder, Sallie Bodie, Colleen Boyns, Mark Eichinger-Wiese, Heidi Kim, Re Knack, Susan Knirk, Steve Moen, John Neitzel, Danielle Richmond, Joe Roza, Brian Sellers-Petersen, and Sherry Steele.

This group comprises long time parishioners with perspective on our history and newer members with a vision of our future. Multiple generations, new leadership, and proven leadership are all represented. All contribute time and talent to ministries of worship, music, governance, social justice, and faith formation.

Vetting candidates for the position of Dean will be a work of quiet discernment. This group will not be available to answer questions about the Call Process. Questions can be directed to your Vestry (questions-comments@saintmarks.org). Nor will the committee directly collect your suggestions for candidates—these should be sent to the Rev. Joan Anthony, diocesan canon to the ordinary [janthony@ecww.org or 206.325.4200]. As mandated by Bishop Rickel, the names and details of candidates must remain confidential until a single candidate is presented to the Vestry. The Vestry will make public one name only . . . the next Dean.

The Vestry expresses our gratitude to the Profile Committee John Neitzel, chair; Betsy Bell, Kae Eaton, Heidi Geis, Nell Grey, Phil Haas, Kathy Thompson, and Doug Thorpe for their prayerful and thoughtful ministry. We also offer our thanks to everyone who submitted names for the Profile and Call Committees.

As we continue to move forward, we ask for your trust in this work and your continued prayers for each other and for our future Dean.

Thank you!
Scott
